Qualifications

• 1 year of experience practicing Workers’ Compensation law in California.
• Active membership in the State Bar of California and in good standing.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Working knowledge of California Workers’ Compensation laws, regulations, and procedures.
• Experience managing litigation matters and working through cases from inception toward resolution.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities.
• Professional judgment and ability to develop strong relationships with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of California Workers’ Compensation defense matters from initial assignment through final resolution.
• Develop and execute effective litigation and case management strategies based on the facts and applicable law.
• Handle all aspects of discovery, including written discovery, document review, depositions, and related proceedings.
• Prepare for and represent clients at hearings, depositions, conferences, trials, and other legal proceedings.
• Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents.
• Analyze medical records, employment records, claims documentation, and other evidence relevant to Workers’ Compensation matters.
• Communicate regularly with insurance carriers, employers, third-party administrators, claims professionals, and other client representatives.
• Provide timely legal advice and case assessments regarding exposure, strategy, settlement opportunities, and potential outcomes.
• Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate case files, calendars, deadlines, and billing records.
• Stay current on developments in California Workers’ Compensation law, regulations, and litigation practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop effective defense strategies and deliver consistent, high-quality client service.
• Participate in professional development activities, training, seminars, and other industry initiatives as appropriate.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Workers’ Compensation Attorney to join the team and manage the legal defense of Workers’ Compensation matters from inception through final resolution. The attorney will handle all aspects of case management, discovery, litigation, and client communication while working closely with insurance carriers, employers, third-party administrators, and other stakeholders.

The firm also contributes to the advancement of Workers’ Compensation legal education through respected industry publications, live training programs, and webinars.

Environment & Work Schedule

• Interest in continuing legal education and staying current with developments in the Workers’ Compensation industry.
