NIIC National Interstate Insurance Company seeks a Senior Workers' Comp Claims Specialist to join our team. Hybrid from Richfield, OH or remote from the USA, with in-office expectations Tuesday–Thursday and one remote day as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 13 years of property and casualty claims experience.
• Completion of or progress toward a professional designation such as AIC preferred.
• CA Workers' Comp experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a large inventory of highly complex workers' comp claims.
• Lead investigations to determine coverage, liability, and damages.
• Negotiate settlements and reserves within prescribed authority.
• May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Convey complex coverage information to insureds and external partners.
• Authorize payments within assigned authority limits.
• Maintain detailed claim files and correspondence.
• Provide coaching or leadership for staff when applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

National Interstate is looking for a CA Senior Workers Comp Claims Specialist to join their team.

This individual will either work hybrid from the Richfield, OH office 4 days per week or work fully remote from the USA, if not local to the office. National Interstate’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in office days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
• Strategically orchestrates and leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
• Analyzes and negotiates appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority.
• May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Conveys highly complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
• Authorizes payments in accordance with assigned authority limit, ensuring timely disbursement.
• Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
• May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience:

• Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).
• Prefer CA Work Comp Experience.
