Job summary

National Interstate is seeking a California Senior Workers Comp Claims Specialist to join our team. This role manages a large inventory of complex claims, leads investigations to determine coverage and liability, and negotiates settlements.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Business Administration or related field, 13+ years of property and casualty claims experience, and CA workers' comp experience; professional designation such as AIC is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.
• Completion of or progress toward AIC is preferred.
• Prefer CA Workers' Compensation experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate coverage and liability.
• Lead investigations to confirm coverage, liability, and damages.
• Analyze and negotiate settlements and reserves within authority.
• Attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Convey complex coverage and settlement information to insureds and external partners.
• Authorize payments within assigned authority and ensure timely disbursement.
• Maintain detailed claim files and related correspondence and settlements.
• May coach staff and participate in talent decisions for direct reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Title

National Interstate is looking for a California Senior Workers Comp Claims Specialist to join their team.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
• Strategically orchestrates and leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
• Analyzes and negotiates appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority.
• May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Conveys highly complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
• Authorizes payments in accordance with assigned authority limit, ensuring timely disbursement.
• Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
• May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.
• Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).
• Prefer CA Work Comp Experience.

Salary Range

Salary Range: $95,000.00 -$105,000.00
