Job summary

National Interstate Insurance Company, part of Great American Insurance Group, seeks a California Senior Workers' Comp Claims Specialist to join our claims team. You will manage highly complex workers' compensation claims, lead investigations, and determine coverage and liability with sound judgment.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in business/admin or related field, 13+ years in property and casualty claims, and strong negotiation and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Education: BA/BS in Business Admin, Risk Mgmt & Insurance, Finance or related field.
• Experience: 13+ years in property and casualty claims handling.
• Designation: AIC or equivalent preferred.
• CA Workers' Comp experience preferred.
• Solid knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling.

Responsibilities

• Manage a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate coverage and liability.
• Lead comprehensive investigations to confirm coverage, liability, and damages.
• Analyze and negotiate settlements/reserves within authority.
• May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Communicate complex coverage information to insureds and partners.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Manages a large inventory of highly complex claims to evaluate compensability/liability.
• Strategically orchestrates and leads comprehensive claims investigations to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages.
• Analyzes and negotiates appropriate claim settlements/reserves within prescribed authority.
• May attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
• Conveys highly complex information regarding coverage and settlements to insureds, claimants, and external partners.
• Authorizes payments in accordance with assigned authority limit, ensuring timely disbursement.
• Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements.
• May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Generally, a minimum of 13 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.
• Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).
• Prefer CA Work Comp Experience
• Scope of Job/Qualifications: Works at the highest authority limits on assignments of the highest technical complexity and coordination.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrates expert knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling procedures.
• Maintains and leverages knowledge of industry laws and regulations.
• Advanced ability to organize and prioritize caseloads, ensuring timely resolution of claims.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships and lead negotiations.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Recognized as a subject matter expert within the company, potentially operating at a peer level to management.

Salary Range: $95,000.00 -$105,000.00
