Fairfield University is looking for a Workday Integration Developer to build and maintain an enterprise‑class automation platform for the University. This platform will power the key processes in Human Resources, Finance, and Student integrations.
The Workday Integration Developer is a member of the Enterprise Systems team at Fairfield University and works under the Director of Enterprise Systems and cross‑functional leads. The role involves design, development, maintenance, and support of inbound and outbound Workday and third‑party integrations and collaboration with functional leads and analysts to develop advanced reports.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead research, design, development, testing, and delivery of new Workday and third‑party systems integrations.
- Create technical design specifications, perform unit and system integration testing, deploy, and support all integrations.
- Understand business problems and build efficient solutions using Workday platform, middleware tools, and source/target system capabilities.
- Configure and develop technical integrations using Workday Studio, Workday RaaS Integrations, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Complex Calculated Fields, Web Services, Workday Custom Reports, XSLT, XPath.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess document requirements, review design, and define functional specifications.
- Manage Workday Integration analysis, system configurations, and deployment to production.
- Lead integration projects with third‑party vendors from discovery through implementation.
- Participate in learning University business processes and translating them to automated processes.
- Adopt and monitor inbound/outbound data integrations, scheduled jobs, alerts, and notifications.
- Engage in Workday semi‑yearly release reviews, coordinate pre‑release testing, and identify impact or enhancement opportunities.
- Monitor, track and resolve support tickets and collaborate on escalated issues.
- Create detailed integration specifications, field mappings, and designs for the entire lifecycle.
- Research integration failures, perform root‑cause analyses, and report results.
- Assist functional leads with system operations, security, business processes related to integrations.
Technical Leadership & Project Management
- Maintain current knowledge of Workday products, administration best practices, and agile methodology.
- Stay current with Workday releases, evaluate impact on University processes, and provide recommendations.
- Contribute to the product vision and drive team planning.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert on large collections of Workday integrations.
- Work with stakeholders to determine problem areas and project impact.
- Develop plans for end‑to‑end enterprise systems strategy.
- Align objectives and programs with business stakeholders and ITS team members.
- Manage timelines and deliverables on large projects.
- Understand data flows between internal systems and Workday.
- Participate in enterprise user group meetings and facilitate discussions.
Reporting & Audits
- Serve as Workday reporting authority; develop discovery boards, reports, dashboards, and analytics.
- Produce and review audit reports to assess integration performance and error handling.
- Maintain and enhance reporting frameworks for operational excellence.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of Workday experience (Finance, HCM, or Student) with report writing and integrations.
- Experience with complex integrations between Finance, Payroll, Admissions, Registration, Advancement, and Academic Administration.
- Good knowledge of Workday HCM, Finance, and/or Student module concepts and capabilities.
- Strong working knowledge of Workday Studio, EIB, RaaS, Web Services, SOAP, REST, XML, XSLT, Java.
- Familiarity with integration design, testing concepts, and middleware or transformation logic.
- Knowledge of all phases of system development lifecycle, including production support.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong organization and prioritization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education.
- Current or past Workday Studio Integration certification.
- Experience with Workday Studio, Orchestrate, Prism.
- Strong knowledge of BIRT.
- Programming language experience: Java, Python.
- Query languages: SQL, WQL.
- Knowledge of Kainos automated testing tools.
Education
BA degree in a technology field or equivalent professional experience.
Working Conditions
On‑campus work preferred; remote and hybrid arrangements may be considered. Occasional travel to Workday training and conference, and occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
