This position is a critical “front-line” role for the Office of Residence Life and is responsible for providing good customer service. Student Assistants are expected to know, voice, model, and motivate students and guests to adhere to the policies and procedures of Stevenson University.
Education/Experience
Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University academically and judicially.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
- Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a willingness to accept responsibility, and an attention to detail.
- Have general knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, as well as e-mail, internet and phone operations.
- Ability to arrive for duty on time as assigned in order to maintain a staffed desk.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Keyboarding, standing and/or sitting, walking, talking and hearing. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal.
Essential Functions
- Provide general office reception duties; greet residents, staff, faculty, and visitors.
- Answer phone calls and forward to the appropriate staff member.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents, staff, and guests of the halls.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the front desk.
- Answer the front desk phone and forward calls or take messages appropriately.
- Answer basic questions about residence life operations.
- Maintain logs for pertinent daily work
- Create basic documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Perform general clerical duties such as filing, copying, etc.
- Perform customer service duties such as lock-outs, submitting maintenance requests, resident check-in, etc.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as determined by the Assistant Director, Housing Operations
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Communicate policies and instructions correctly and respectfully to residents and guests.
- Receive and report requests for repairs, maintenance and lock changes
- Maintain accurate logs for lockouts, equipment check-out etc.
- Inventory and maintain equipment (i.e. cleaning supplies, games.)
- Distribute flyers to resident assistant mailboxes.
- Provide follow up for residents’ concerns
- Refer to Stevenson University Handbook and Stevenson Guidelines for Housing to accurately and appropriately answer questions.
