Qualifications

• At least one year experience as an RNFA in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-assisting services during surgical procedures within scope of training and privileges.
• Assist surgeons with exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, suturing, wound closure, and intraoperative activities.
• Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient care.
• Collaborate with surgeons and perioperative team for coordinated surgical care.
• Maintain sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention and OR safety standards.
• Assist with patient positioning, prep, equipment readiness, and instrument verification.
• Monitor patient needs and communicate concerns to the team.
• Complete accurate clinical documentation per hospital policies.
• Participate in time-outs, patient identification, specimen handling, and safety protocols.
• Maintain professional communication with patients, families, surgeons, and team.

The Nurse Practitioner / Registered Nurse First Assistant (NP/RNFA) provides perioperative support and first‑assisting services to surgeons and the surgical team in the operating room. This position is designed for a motivated, patient‑focused advanced practice nurse who is developing clinical expertise in the surgical environment. The NP/RNFA collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perioperative nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to promote safe, efficient, and high‑quality surgical care. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide first‑assisting services during surgical procedures within the scope of training, demonstrated competency, applicable law, and hospital privileges.
• Assist surgeons with exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, suturing, wound closure, and other authorized intraoperative activities.
• Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient care as appropriate to the position and assigned responsibilities.
• Collaborate with surgeons and the interdisciplinary team to support coordinated, patient‑centered surgical care.
• Maintain a safe, sterile surgical environment and adhere to infection prevention protocols, aseptic technique, and operating room safety standards.
• Assist with patient positioning, surgical preparation, equipment readiness, and verification of surgical supplies and instrumentation as assigned.
• Monitor the patient's clinical needs within the authorized scope of practice and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate team members.
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in surgical time‑outs, patient identification procedures, specimen handling, and other established safety protocols.
• Maintain professional communication with patients, families, surgeons, and healthcare team members.
• Participate in orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and ongoing professional development to enhance surgical and perioperative skills.
