Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Field Engineer to conduct wireless field surveys across indoor and outdoor environments, collecting RF data and documenting site conditions. You will use Ekahau and other tools while reading floor plans to pinpoint locations and ensure accurate coverage assessments.

The role requires 1–3 years in RF testing or related fields, willingness to travel nationwide, and strong communication and documentation skills. Competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree in Electronics, Technology, Telecommunications, Networking, or related field preferred.
• 1-3 years of RF field testing, drive testing, wireless surveys, telecom field services, site auditing, or related technical field.
• Basic understanding of wireless/RF concepts: signal strength, interference, coverage, frequency bands, antennas, attenuation.
• Able to read architectural/building floor plans.
• Previous WiFi survey or Ekahau experience preferred but not required.
• Comfort with handheld test equipment, laptops, and field testing gear.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word, PDF annotation tools, and mapping/survey apps.
• Able to walk 8-10 miles per day, stand long periods, carry 10-15 lbs of gear.
• Willing to travel 100% within the U.S. and stay away from home for extended assignments.
• Valid REAL ID driver’s license; U.S. citizenship required.
• Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Adaptable to varied indoor/outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform wireless field surveys and collect RF data.
• Document network coverage and site conditions.
• Prepare, configure, and maintain wireless survey equipment and test gear.
• Conduct indoor walk-test and outdoor drive-test data collection.
• Read floor plans to identify locations and features.
• Identify access points, antennas, and building features on plans.
• Record wall types, materials, obstacles affecting RF signals.
• Perform signal verification, latency, connectivity, and coverage testing.
• Inspect cabling, equipment mounting, and installation conditions.
• Capture site photos, annotate floor plans, and export field logs.
• Coordinate RF anomalies and site-access concerns with project leadership.
