Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Field Engineer to support wireless network survey and testing projects across the United States. You will perform field data collection, coverage validation, and signal measurements in indoor and outdoor environments including WiFi, LTE, and 5G networks.

You will prepare and maintain survey gear, conduct drive-test and walk-test methods, and document findings with floor plans and site photos. Travel nationwide is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred in Electronics, Technology, Telecommunications, Networking, or related field.
• 1–3 years of RF field testing, drive testing, wireless surveys, or related telecom field services experience.
• Basic understanding of wireless/RF concepts: signal strength, interference, coverage, frequency bands, antennas, attenuation.
• Able to read architectural/building floor plans and navigate sites during surveys.
• Experience with WiFi surveys is preferred; Ekahau experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, PDF annotations, and mapping/survey apps.
• Must be able to walk 8–10 miles daily, stand long periods, and lift 10–15 lbs.
• Willingness to travel 100% within the U.S. and stay away from home on projects.
• Valid REAL ID driver’s license; U.S. citizenship required for site access.
• Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform wireless field surveys and collect RF data.
• Document network coverage and site conditions.
• Prepare, configure, and maintain survey equipment and test devices.
• Conduct indoor walk-tests and outdoor drive-tests.
• Read floor plans to identify access points, antennas, and landmarks.
• Capture site photos, mark plans, and export logs for post-processing.
• Identify RF anomalies and communicate site conditions to leadership.
