Job summary

Bay Cove Human Services seeks a Shelter Support Worker for a seasonal, December–April role in Massachusetts. The on-site position focuses on creating a welcoming, safe space for unhoused individuals using harm-reduction and trauma-informed care principles.

Responsibilities include guest safety monitoring, intake documentation, crisis intervention, and collaboration with the shelter team to ensure policy adherence and smooth operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Demonstrated verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Trauma-informed approach and sensitivity to guests' histories encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for guests and maintain safety through visual monitoring and respectful interactions.
• Conduct scheduled safety checks and monitor common areas and exterior surroundings; provide redirection as needed.
• Facilitate a respectful check-in; complete intake documentation and HMIS data entry as required.
• Follow safety plans and report incidents to supervisor; participate in team safety planning.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation; call 911 for medical emergencies when necessary.
• Maintain guest confidentiality except for authorized personnel.
• Attend required meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
