Placements24 is seeking a skilled Wind Turbine Technician for on-site work in Welkom, Free State, South Africa. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of wind turbines to maximise energy output and uptime.

The ideal candidate has a National Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and at least 3 years of wind turbine or related machinery experience, with strong safety awareness and the ability to work under challenging weather conditions.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or relevant technical qualification.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a wind turbine technician or in similar field (heavy machinery maintenance, industrial electrical systems).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with complex machinery.
• Experience with hydraulic and lubrication systems; electrical troubleshooting and repair.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and servicing on wind turbine components (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic).
• Diagnose and repair faults and malfunctions in wind turbines using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Troubleshoot complex issues to minimize downtime and ensure efficient turbine operation.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Ensure all work follows stringent safety standards and procedures.
• Complete detailed service reports documenting maintenance activities, findings, and repairs.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
• Collaborate with site managers and other technicians to optimize turbine performance.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance processes.

• Ability to work at heights and in challenging weather conditions.
• Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Certification for working at heights and operating specific equipment is advantageous.
