Job Description Summary

The Wind Technician position requires local travel within the hub (Blooming Grove, Lexington IL and Bennington, Minonk IL). The Wind Technician is a critical and active role to maintain optimal function and output at the wind site by working daily on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The Wind Technician partners and communicates with the Site Lead and Manager to execute contract requirements and timelines, ensuring alignment with GE standards.

Essential Responsibilities

• Work with site & hub leadership to execute contractual obligations per customer requirements and activities set forth daily, including electrical and mechanical equipment used in GE wind turbines;
• Perform maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts to correct malfunctions;
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch & variable speed turbines;
• Assist in all areas of site operations as directed by the manager with minimal supervision, observing all safety requirements;
• Perform diagnostic electrical analysis;
• Document all work using computer-based service reporting procedures;
• Respond to GE’s remote operations center when necessary.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, and
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Wind Technician/Wind Mechanic, or completed Wind Certificate Program/Associates Degree in Energy, or 2 years electrical work experience.

Eligibility Requirements

• Passing a Technical Knowledge Assessment, and
• Basic computer skills;
• Valid driver’s license;
• Ability to handle weights up to 50 lbs. and climb towers up to 300 feet daily;
• Meet manufacturer weight limits not to exceed 300 lbs including gear;
• Work in various environments including industrial, manufacturing, and power facilities;
• Prioritize work according to contract obligations;
• Work independently with initiative;
• Work rotating shifts and on-call as needed;
• Occasional overnight stays may be required.

Desired Characteristics

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Technical, Electrical, or Electronics field;
• Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronic field;
• Ability to work with diverse personnel;
• Wind turbine experience;
• Experience with hydraulic power tools, heavy equipment, crane, and rigging;
• Electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic experience.
