Job summary

The Wisconsin Humane Society is seeking a full-time Wildlife Program Manager to lead our wildlife rehabilitation team at the Milwaukee Campus. You will oversee staff, interns, and volunteers, develop strategic plans, and ensure compassionate, compliant animal care while coordinating with other WHS teams.

The role requires strong leadership, urban wildlife rehabilitation experience, and a dedication to our mission and values.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated team management experience.
• State of Wisconsin Advanced License in Wildlife Rehabilitation preferred; ability to obtain license in a timely manner.
• Rehabilitation experience in urban settings with small mammals and avian species preferred.
• Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.

• Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work.
• Must meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Manage program team of wildlife rehabilitator staff, seasonal interns, and volunteers with supervisor processes.
• Develop and implement strategic operating plan for Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
• Communicate organizational priorities and connect team with the organization.
• Foster workplace environment and cross-team relationships embodying WHS values.
• Establish and monitor rehabilitation protocols for thousands of animals across many species.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and reporting.
• Oversee budget planning and management for the team and program.
• Partner with Marketing and Communications to share wildlife work with the community.

Key accountabilities:

• Manage program’steam of wildlife rehabilitator staff, seasonal interns, and volunteers according to WHS supervisory process, including staff development; team planning and processes, communication, and culture; supervision and scheduling; and hiring
• Develop and execute strategic operating plan for the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center that aligns with organizational needs and resources.
• Consistently and positively communicate organizational and team strategic direction, priorities, values, and key informationand connect the team to the organization.
• Establish workplace environment within team, and relationships and communication between team and other teams, which exemplify WHS values.
• Establish andmonitorrehabilitationprotocolsthat:
  • Providecarefor thousands ofinjured, sick, and orphaned wild animalsfrom over 100different species,including threatenedandendangered species.
  • Comply withe evolving federal,stateand local regulations,including reporting requirements
• Ensure customer service and partnership with the community, providing guidance on human-wildlife coexistence and when tosafely and humanely intervene
• Stay current onbest practices and trends,includinganimal care, emerging illnesses,and regulatory changes.
• Build andmaintainprofessional relationshipsand partners with internal stakeholders,community partners,regulatory agencies, veterinary partners,and animal welfare partners
• Oversee budget management and planning for theteam and program.
• Partner with the Marketing and Communication teams to provide content tosharewith the community about WHS’s wildlife work.

Qualifications:

• Demonstratedteam management experience.
• A State of Wisconsin Advanced License in Wildlife Rehabilitationis strongly preferred; ability to get licensed in an agreed upon timelinerequired.
• Rehabilitation experiencein an urban setting and experience with small mammals and avian species preferred.
• Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.

• Abilityto navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work.

Hiring range:

$51-64k annually
