Job summary

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our team across WHS Campuses in Wisconsin. We offer relief, part-time, or full-time opportunities with a salary range of $22.00 to $26.00 per hour.

Requirements include CVT certification and clinic or shelter experience; ability to work with diverse clients and lift up to 50 pounds; responsibilities include nursing care, venipuncture, radiographs, anesthesia support, and accurate record keeping.

Qualifications

• Experience in a veterinary clinic and/or animal shelter preferred.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Performing treatments, diagnostics, and nursing care for shelter and clinic patients.
• Venipuncture, radiographs, dental prophylaxis, laboratory diagnostics, vaccination, and animal restraint per protocols.
• Safely anesthetizing and preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, and calculating drug dosages.

Key accountabilities may include:

• Performing treatments, diagnostics, and nursing care for shelter and clinic patients:
• Venipuncture, radiographs, dental prophylaxis, laboratory diagnostics, and vaccinating and restraining animals in accordance with organizational protocols.
• Performing surgical procedures:
• Safely and efficiently anesthetizing and preparing patients for surgery, monitoring patients at all stages of anesthesia, and calculating drug dosages.
• Maintaining accurate patient records and cleaning and maintaining equipment, surgical quarters, and animal areas as needed
• Using a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgmental approach with all clients, co-workers, and volunteers.

Qualifications:

• Veterinary Technician Certification required
• Experience in a veterinary clinic and/or animal shelter preferred
• Able to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds

• Able to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
• Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Hiring range: $22-$26/hour
