The State of South Carolina is seeking a Wildlife Biologist to oversee Bear Island wetlands management, supervise public hunt programs, and monitor invasive species. The successful candidate will coordinate budgets, maintain work plans, and ensure data collection and reporting are aligned with management goals.
Qualifications include a master’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field (or a bachelor's with two years of relevant experience).
A master's degree in biology, chemistry or related technical area field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job.
Ability to manage both freshwater and brackish water habitats for waterfowl usage. Ability to conduct public hunts for the general public. Familiarity with dike maintenance, bulkhead installation and trunk construction and installation. Experience in conducting rice trunk style management is preferred. Ability to identify wetland plants beneficial to waterfowl. Ability to supervise staff, manage budgets, collect data, and compile monthly reports. Ability to work with the general public, work early mornings and late evenings, on some weekends, and in inclement buggy conditions.
