Job summary

Conservation Legacy is seeking a Crew Leader II for the Wildland Fire Mitigation project in Las Cruces, NM. As a mentor and educator, you will guide young adults through conservation tasks, safety protocols and field leadership, with a focus on health and resiliency of the land and people.

The role requires leadership experience, backcountry readiness, and a Wilderness First Responder certification (or willingness to obtain).

Qualifications

• Commitment to the program mission and field work.
• Experience with conservation corps/public land agencies.
• Leadership and supervisory experience with youth or young adults.
• Current advanced medical certification (Wilderness First Responder with CPR/AED) or willingness to obtain prior to start date.
• Ability to manage 40-50+ hour weeks, camping, and field duties.
• Must be able to speak, understand and write English.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 21 years old or hold a valid driver’s license with sufficient experience.

Responsibilities

• Mentor assistant crew leader and develop leadership skills.
• Deliver skills training on worksites and foster crew growth.
• Promote a safe, cohesive, and team‑oriented community.
• Enforce program policies and maintain a substance-free environment.
• Train, supervise and manage a youth crew to complete conservation tasks.
• Coordinate logistics with project partners and staff.
• Ensure safety and incident reporting and documentation.
• Manage camp chores, budgets and daily operations.
