Job summary

Conservation Legacy in Salida, CO seeks a Winter Conservation Crew Leader to guide a seven-member crew through winter wildfire mitigation projects. You will lead safety, teach chainsaw techniques, and coordinate outdoor tasks in challenging conditions.

Applicants should hold an active A-faller/A-bucker certification, a red card, a wilderness medicine credential, and be prepared for physically demanding work 40–50 hours per week in winter. Housing options may be available.

Qualifications

• Active A-faller and A-bucker chainsaw certifications; B-faller/bucker preferred.
• Minimum 6 months of professional chainsaw experience and ability to teach others.
• Active wildland fire Incident Qualification Card ("red card").
• Current wilderness medicine certification (WFR/WEMT) with CPR/AED.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work 40–50 hours weekly in outdoor settings.
• Experience leading an outdoor crew in stewardship or manual labor.
• Comfort driving in all weather conditions.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Lead a seven-member crew in winter conservation projects.
• Teach saw techniques and maintenance to crew members.
• Coordinate project sites and report progress while ensuring safety.
• Drive crew vehicles and operate in winter conditions.
• Maintain Leave No Trace practices and environmental standards.
