Job summary

Conservation Legacy in Las Cruces, NM, seeks a 2027 Wildland Fire Mitigation and Chainsaw Crew Member for the AmeriCorps program. You will work with Gila National Forest on forest management, fire mitigation, and prescribed burn projects, living and working on public lands in the Southwest during the term from Feb 1 to May 7, 2027.

Expect rugged field conditions, training in chainsaw operation and wildland fire basics, teamwork with a crew of up to seven, and a commitment to safety and

Qualifications

• Citizen of the United States, US national, or lawful permanent resident
• At least 17 years of age
• Has a high school diploma or equivalent; agrees to obtain a diploma prior to using the education award
• Agree to provide information for National Service Criminal History Check

Responsibilities

• AmeriCorps members serve a term of National Service in the Southwest on professionally supervised crews.
• Members camp at project sites and work in various weather conditions on environmental conservation and habitat restoration projects.
• Crew may be based in Las Cruces, NM and work on public lands in New Mexico and surrounding states.
• Safety procedures and proper use/maintenance of hand and power tools are required.
