Job summary

State of North Carolina - Agriculture & Consumer Services is seeking a Forest Fire Equipment Operator (S) for the North Carolina Forest Service. The role maintains and operates heavy equipment for fire suppression, pre-suppression, and forestry work, with after-hours duties during fire danger and emergencies.

Responsibilities include minor repairs, potential major repairs with a district mechanic, and possible incident management team participation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of heavy equipment operation experience required.
• Completion of NC FFEO training within two years of hire.
• Possession of a current NC CDL on hire date; or permit with 90 days to obtain CDL.
• Pre-employment drug screening and Medical Examiner's Certificate required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate bulldozer, hauling unit, and other heavy equipment for wildland fire suppression and forestation.
• Perform minor equipment repairs and assist with major repairs.
• Respond in emergencies such as wildland fires and natural disasters; participate on incident management teams as assigned.
