Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service seeks a Forestry Supervisor I to manage forest management, water quality, ranger training, GIS, and cost-share programs across the district. You will oversee weather stations, fire danger rating, CWPPs, and fuel mitigation projects while supporting emergency response and prescribed burns.

Responsibilities include on-call readiness, personnel hiring, and budgeting, with a focus on leadership, coordination, and program compliance across NC counties.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of forest management silvicultural techniques and regeneration practices.
  • Knowledge of the Forest Practice Guidelines that relate to Water Quality and River Buffer Rules.
  • Knowledge of current state and federal forest management cost share programs.
  • Knowledge of wildland fire suppression techniques.
  • Possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; good personal relation skills, and leadership skills with ability to organize and prioritize and be self-motivated.

Responsibilities

  • The Assistant District Forester manages and ensures compliance of the Forest Management, Water Quality, Ranger Training, GIS programs and cost-share programs.
  • Position directs and coordinates work on the District's Remote Access Weather Stations, National Fire Danger Rating programs, Community Wildfire Protection Planning and fuel mitigation projects.
  • Individual will function in various positions on prescribed burns and within the Incident Command System's Operations and Planning Sections responding to wildland fires, and other all-risk incidents within the District.
  • Administrative duties will include personnel hiring, performance management, purchasing, and managing the District's Forestation program/budget.
