Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Burn Crew Member for the Oakmulgee Ranger District of the Talladega National Forest. This seasonal role runs January 4, 2027, to April 23, 2027, and covers ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, and related tasks as assigned.

You will build ties with the local fire community and partners while maintaining fitness and credentials, and you may work with other agencies in various weather and terrain.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain RXCM or FFT2 qualifications including I-100, L-180, S-190, S-130 training, and a supervised burn.
• Must meet local fitness standards per Fire Management Manual.
• Experience operating various equipment.
• Must obtain licenses or certifications (First Aid, CPR).
• Valid driver's license and compliance with Auto Safety Program.

Responsibilities

• From ignition to mop-up, handle fire-line tasks and monitor post-burn activities.
• Build relationships within the fire community and local areas.
• Participate in wildland fire suppression with partners and agencies.
