Job summary

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Burn Crew Member (BCM) for the Talladega National Forest region in Alabama. The BCM will participate in wildland fire operations including ignition, control, mop-up, and monitoring, working on a 3-person squad under a Burn Crew Manager.

This seasonal role requires a high school diploma, fitness standards, and ability to obtain RXCM/FFT2 qualifications. You will gain certification credentials and build relationships within the fire community and local partners.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must obtain RXCM/FFT2 qualifications including I-100, L-180, S-190, S-130 under supervision.
• Must meet fitness standards per local Fire Management Manual.
• Experience operating various types of equipment.
• Must obtain required licenses (First Aid, CPR) as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, and monitoring on fire lines.
• Develop skills and certifications while building relationships in the fire community and local areas.
• Work in variable weather, remote locations, and hazardous terrain.
