Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Virginia seeks a Wigmaker Apprentice to rediscover and preserve 18th-century wigmaking, barbering, and hairdressing skills, with emphasis on research, hand skills, and public interpretation.

You will maintain wigs, collaborate on projects, lead demonstrations, train staff and interns, and help provide exceptional guest experiences while meeting safety and overtime expectations.

Qualifications

  • High school degree/G.E.D. with a general knowledge of 18th c. colonial history.
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per CW criteria.
  • Must provide a 5-year Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have limited moving violations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop proficiency in 18th-century Wigmaker skills through apprenticeship and reproductions.
  • Maintain, style, fit, and care for wigs and hairpieces for daily operations and performances.
  • Collaborate on production projects supporting preservation and interpretive goals.
