Wide Format Equipment Maintenance Technician

Full Time Brooklyn, NY, US

3 days ago Requisition ID: 1041

$80,000.00 To $105,000.00 Annually

  • Department: Production / Equipment Maintenance
  • Reports To: Director of Operations / Production Manager
  • Location: Brooklyn, NY

Job Summary

The Wide Format Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of Duggal’s

digital printing and CNC finishing equipment — Durst and Agfa UV flatbed and hybrid presses, HP Latex roll-to-roll printers, and Zünd and

Kongsberg CNC cutting tables. This is a dedicated maintenance position focused on equipment uptime, print quality stability, and cut

accuracy across all production shifts. The technician owns the preventive maintenance program, manages equipment performance

against OEE and related KPIs across the asset lifecycle, coordinates outside service and warranty work, trains operators and maintenance

personnel, and adheres to all appropriate operating and safety standards and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance, Diagnosis, and Repair
  • Build and execute preventive maintenance schedules for all printing, cutting, and finishing equipment based on OEM intervals, run hours, and failure history; perform scheduled lubrication, filter changes, belt and bearing inspection, alignment and calibration checks, and optical, encoder, and vacuum system servicing.
  • Diagnose faults to root cause rather than replacing components by trial; document findings and corrective action before a repair is closed.
  • Respond to production down calls, triage by criticality, communicate realistic restoration times to production management, and drive measurable improvement in mean time to repair (MTTR) and mean time between failures (MTBF).
Digital Wide Format Printers — i.e. Durst, Agfa, HP Latex
  • Service printhead assemblies: replacement, alignment, voltage and temperature settings, nozzle recovery, purging, capping and wiping stations, and waste ink systems.
  • Maintain ink delivery systems — pumps, dampers, filters, degassers, lines, and fittings — and correct leaks, air ingestion, and pressure faults.
  • Service UV curing (lamp and LED), latex curing and drying modules, chiller and cooling circuits, exhaust and extraction, and the compressed air and vacuum systems serving the press fleet.
  • Maintain media handling — vacuum tables and zones, belt transport, unwind and take-up, tension control, and media sensors — and perform machine calibration, head alignment, feed calibration, and density and linearization checks with color management and RIP operators, distinguishing hardware faults from file, RIP, or color profile issues.
CNC Cutting Tables — Zünd and Kongsberg
  • Service beam and carriage drive systems: drive belts and tension, rails, bearings, and servo drives; correct squareness, backlash, and axis calibration.
  • Maintain and rebuild tool modules — universal cutting, electric oscillating and driven tools, kiss-cutting, creasing wheels, drive and wheel modules, and router and milling spindles — including blades, bits, collets, spindle bearings, runout checks, and dust extraction.
  • Maintain vacuum hold-down systems (blowers, filters, zone valves, plenum sealing, underlay replacement), conveyor belt tracking and tension, and table surface flatness.
  • Maintain camera and optical registration systems for cut-to-print accuracy, and coordinate controller software and firmware updates with the OEM (Zünd Cut Center, Kongsberg i-cut Production Console).
Equipment Performance, OEE, and Lifecycle Management
  • Develop and implement comprehensive equipment management strategies to optimize the lifecycle of all equipment, ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Analyze equipment performance data and KPIs — OEE and its availability, performance, and quality components, downtime cause codes, run hours, machine‑attributable reprints, and consumable consumption — to identify trends, areas of improvement, and opportunities for cost reduction; report results to management with prioritized recommendations.
Vendor Coordination, Parts, and Documentation
  • Coordinate equipment repairs, servicing, and inspections with external vendors and internal maintenance teams, prioritizing tasks based on criticality and operational requirements.
  • Manage OEM and third‑party service relationships for Durst, Agfa, HP, Zünd, and Kongsberg — remote support, on‑site visits, service contracts, and warranty claims — and verify work performed against quoted scope before sign‑off.
  • Maintain a spare parts and consumables inventory sized to protect uptime, with reorder points and usage tracking.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, SOPs, PM checklists, troubleshooting guides, OEM manuals, schematics, firmware versions, and machine configuration backups.
Training and Safety
  • Conduct training sessions for equipment operators and maintenance personnel, emphasizing best practices, safety guidelines, and proper equipment handling techniques; train operators on daily first‑line care and verify it is being performed.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and legal regulations, including lockout/tagout before service and safe handling and disposal of inks, solvents, and cleaning agents per SDS requirements. Keep guarding, emergency stops, interlocks, light curtains, and UV shielding in working order; never defeat a safety device to sustain production.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below

are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance, electromechanical technology, or mechatronics strongly preferred. Equivalent military or apprenticeship training accepted.
  • Three (3) or more years of hands‑on maintenance and repair experience with digital printing equipment, CNC cutting or routing equipment, or comparable industrial electromechanical machinery.
  • OEM training or certification on Durst, Agfa, HP Latex, Zünd, or Kongsberg equipment is a significant plus.
  • Demonstrated experience owning or contributing to a preventive maintenance program; experience analyzing equipment performance data (OEE, downtime, MTBF/MTTR) and reporting to management preferred. Microsoft Office required; CMMS software, OSHA 10 or 30, and formal lockout/tagout training a plus.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to read and work from electrical, and mechanical schematics and OEM service documentation.
  • Electromechanical troubleshooting: servo and stepper drives, motion control, sensors and encoders, limit switches, relays, lowvoltage DC, and control wiring.
  • Mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, and fluid systems: belts, bearings, linear rails, gearboxes, alignment and torque specification, compressors, regulators, valves, blowers, pumps, filtration, and leak diagnosis.
  • Basic PC and network skills for machine controllers: Windows, IP configuration, firmware updates, and configuration backup and restore.
  • Knowledge of printing media, substrates, and laminates and their effect on machine behavior and on print and cut defects.
Interpersonal Skills and Work Habits
  • Ability to effectively communicate with production managers and team members to coordinate efficiency of time; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative manner.
  • Proven time management and the ability to work under pressure in a demanding, deadline-driven environment; disciplined documentation habits.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required by management, with on‑call phone availability for maintenance support.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Duggal Visual Solutions is a manufacturing facility with large machinery throughout; there is a moderate noise level throughout the

environment. Earplugs should be worn as necessary when operating machinery. Work involves exposure to inks, solvents, cleaning

agents, UV curing systems, and cutting and routing dust, with required PPE provided. Maintenance is frequently performed around,

beneath, and inside production equipment, and may be scheduled outside normal production hours.

Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds, using best practices for safety and enlisting the help of a colleague. Must be able

to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and reach overhead without hindrance; work in confined positions inside or beneath equipment; use a

ladder and, where required, an elevated work platform; and stand and walk for most of the shift. Requires manual dexterity and near

vision for fine mechanical work such as printhead and tool module service, and the ability to distinguish color and fine detail for quality
