Job summary

City of Amarillo is hiring a WIC Technician II/Peer Counselor to support breastfeeding education and eligibility screening for the WIC program. The role includes client intake, benefits issuance, and coordination of appointments in a busy health department setting.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent; minimum one year of clerical experience.
• Two years clerical experience preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver's License required.
• IT help desk or similar experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Educating pregnant women and families on the benefits of breastfeeding.
• Assisting new mothers with techniques of breastfeeding.
• Conducting breastfeeding classes in person, via Zoom, and in community settings.
• Assisting WIC Nutritionists with breastfeeding consultations for participants.
• Instructing participants on breast pump use when necessary.
• Maintaining logs and inventory of breastfeeding supplies and equipment.
