Job summary

City of Amarillo’s WIC program seeks a WIC Technician II/Peer Counselor to interview clients, determine eligibility, educate on breastfeeding, and issue benefits. The role includes data entry, appointment scheduling, equipment upkeep, and report generation.

Strong customer service and clerical accuracy are essential in a clinic setting. The ideal candidate may be bilingual in Spanish, possess a valid Texas driver’s license, and have experience in IT/help desk-type tasks.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of clerical experience; two years preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
• IT help desk or similar experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Educating pregnant women and their families on the benefits of breastfeeding.
• Assisting new mothers with breastfeeding techniques.
• Conducting breastfeeding classes in person, via Zoom, and in community settings.
• Assisting WIC Nutritionists with breastfeeding consultations for participants.
• Instructing participants on the use of breast pumps.
• Maintaining logs and inventory of breastfeeding supplies and equipment.
• Interviewing clients and determining income eligibility for enrollment in WIC.
• Issuing food benefits according to diet prescriptions and filing copies.
• Scheduling appointments and following up on missed appointments.
• Answering a multi-line telephone system and processing calls efficiently.
• Contacting participants to upload documents.
• Measuring height, weight and hematocrit/hemoglobin.
