What You'll Be Doing

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a special supplementalnutrition program offered throughout Wake County. The WIC program is funded bythe United States Department of Agriculture. WIC provides individualizednutrition counseling and group nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion andsupport, referrals for health care and other services and healthy food benefitsto those in need. We are currently recruiting for temporarypart-time WIC Nutritionist. The WIC Nutritionist identifies nutritionrisks, provides nutrition counseling, and completes food prescriptions for WICprogram participants- works closely with other program employees, includingnutrition, breastfeeding and laboratory team members, client servicescoordinators, and vendor coordinators to ensure WIC services are effective. This position is onsite, but will be remote after training period.

EssentialFunctions:

  • Determines program eligibility for applicants in compliancewith federal, state and local guidelines and policies
  • Conducts nutritionassessment, provides nutrition education, determines plan of care, assignsclient goals and food packages, and makes referrals to outside resources asappropriate to program participants
  • Consults with program employees, healthcare and social service providers to coordinate client care
  • Documentsclient information within electronic record at all WIC services locations
  • Assistswith special projects and community outreach events
  • Participates in planningfor and supervision of the public health field experience for students andinterns
  • May conduct group nutrition education classes
  • Obtains anthropometricsand Hemoglobin finger stick as needed

Schedule:20 hours per week; 4- 5 days

  • Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) approved program
