Job summary

The Anchorage Health Department is hiring a part-time WIC nutrition assistant to screen clients, provide nutrition education, and refer high-risk cases to a Registered Dietitian. Successful candidates will complete the CPA training program and practicum before independently seeing clients.

A valid Alaska driver’s license and background checks are required. Remote telecommuting may be considered after probation, with management approval.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• and two (2) years of experience in a health and/or social services work environment.
• OR Associate’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Nutrition or a closely related discipline, and experience in health and/or social services work environment.
• Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license by the time of hire.
• Must obtain certification as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) within three (3) months of hire.
• Must obtain an American Red Cross First Aid Certification and CPR within ninety (90) days of hire.
• Background checks are required; eligibility contingent upon satisfactory results.

Responsibilities

• Screen WIC clients to determine nutritional risk using State of Alaska policies and protocols.
• Provide participant-centered nutrition education, including individual and group education.
• Identify high-risk clients and refer them to the Registered Dietitian.
• Complete CPA training program and practicum before independent client sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
