Job summary

Canacre is seeking a wetlands and watercourses field surveyor to lead field surveys of wetlands and watercourses, collect vital ecological data, and create detailed maps using GIS. The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, habitat evaluation, and participation in restoration projects.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in environmental consulting, with experience on infrastructure projects and familiarity with Section 401/404 permits, NEPA processes, and SWPPP practices.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree from a program in Biology, Engineering, Geology, Environmental Sciences, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of environmental consulting/field surveying experience.
• Professional experience working on infrastructure projects.
• Professional experience with Section 401/404 regulations and wetlands.
• Wetland and Waterbody Determinations and Delineations under CWA 401/404 and RHA 10.
• NEPA Assessments and Documentation (CEs, EA, EIS).
• SWPPP knowledge and implementation.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and ability to work in a team across regions.
• Regulatory familiarity with construction compliance preferred.
• PWS or WPIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Site Assessment: survey wetlands and watercourses including vegetation, hydrology, soils and wildlife habitats.
• Data Collection: gather data on water quality, flow, biodiversity and ecological health.
• Mapping: create maps/reports using GIS to document extent of wetlands and watercourses.
• Regulatory Compliance: ensure compliance with state/federal regulations and prepare reports for agencies.
• Habitat Evaluation: assess ecological value for biodiversity and flood control.
• Restoration Projects: assist in restoration and enhancement of habitats.
• Monitoring: ongoing monitoring of wetlands and watercourses over time.
• Public Education and Outreach: educate stakeholders on wetlands and ecosystem health.
