Job description

Description

MES is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Wetland/Environmental Specialist to join our team. This role will support a variety of projects involving municipal, utility, and public infrastructure clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental permitting, wetland delineations, ecological assessments, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct wetland delineations in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and state guidelines.
  • Prepare wetland permit applications (e.g., MDEQ, EGLE, USACE, MDOT) and support clients through the permitting process.
  • Perform environmental impact assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Review construction plans for environmental compliance and provide recommendations.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, local municipalities, and stakeholders regarding natural resource concerns.
  • Assist in the preparation of NEPA documents, ecological reports, Phase I ESAs, and related studies.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, GPS data, and reporting documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, planners, and project managers to integrate environmental considerations into project design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in wetland delineation, permitting, or environmental consulting.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA, EGLE/DEQ regulations).
  • Certification in wetland delineation (e.g., PWS) preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Familiarity with GPS units, GIS mapping (e.g., ArcGIS), and environmental sampling techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites throughout Michigan and neighboring states.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
