Job summary

Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools is seeking a Wellness Interventionist for Mt. Morris Middle School to support behavioral health in the Wellness Room. Responsibilities include guiding students through self-regulation, delivering coping strategies, and maintaining confidentiality within school policies.

The role emphasizes calm, respectful student interactions and collaboration with teachers and counselors to ensure safety and appropriate referrals when needed. In-person, 7.5-hour days at school.

Qualifications

• Experience with behaviorally challenged students.
• Knowledge of Positive Behavior Support Initiative.
• Experience with implementation of behavior interventions for small groups and individual students.
• Must meet ESSA Standards.

Responsibilities

• Welcome students into the Wellness Room in a calm, respectful, and nonjudgmental manner.
• Provide a safe, structured environment where students can decompress and practice self-regulation.
• Help students identify and use appropriate coping strategies, such as breathing exercises, quiet reflection, sensory tools, or other calming activities.
• Listen and provide emotional support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Encourage students to develop independence in recognizing their emotions and choosing healthy strategies to manage them.
• Monitor student use of the room and ensure established expectations, time limits, and procedures are followed.
• Help students transition back to class when they are ready to learn.
• Maintain appropriate documentation regarding student visits, when required.
• Communicate relevant concerns to teachers, counselors, administrators, or other designated staff according to school procedures.
• Recognize situations that require additional support and promptly refer concerns involving student safety, significant emotional distress, bullying, or other serious issues to the appropriate school professional.
• Maintain student privacy and confidentiality in accordance with school policies and applicable requirements.
