Job summary

Rappahannock County Public Schools seeks a Wellness Integration Specialist to join the Commit to Be Fit (C2BF) Wellness Team. This role emphasizes movement-integrated instruction, outdoor learning, and garden-based education for students PreK–12 and staff.

Qualifications

Wellness Integration Specialist
Position Summary

Rappahannock County Public Schools (RCPS) is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and student-centered Wellness Integration Specialist to join the Commit to Be Fit (C2BF) Wellness Team. This position is ideal for an individual with strong classroom management skills, a passion for promoting student and staff wellness, and an interest in action-based learning, outdoor education, and school gardens.

The Wellness Integration Specialist will support wellness initiatives for students in grades PreK–12 and staff, with a primary focus on movement-integrated instruction, outdoor learning, and garden-based education. This position works collaboratively with school staff to foster healthy habits and create engaging learning experiences that support the whole child.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Facilitate engaging Action-Based Learning (ABL) and outdoor movement classes for elementary students as part of the regular exploratory rotation.
  • Provide movement-integrated classroom "push-in" lessons for PreK–12 students, including brain boosters, mindfulness activities, and other wellness initiatives.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, tracking, evaluation, and reporting of grant-funded wellness initiatives.
  • Lead wellness workshops and activities for RCPS staff to support employee well-being.
  • Assist with the design, development, and maintenance of school gardens and outdoor learning spaces.
  • Create and distribute wellness-related newsletters, educational materials, and family resources.
  • Collaborate with members of the Commit to Be Fit team, teachers, administrators, and community partners to promote healthy lifestyle habits throughout the school community.
  • Assist with planning and implementing wellness events, including Plant and Play Day, Fall Harvest, and other wellness initiatives.
  • Support the continued development of innovative wellness programming aligned with district goals and grant objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Commit to Be Fit Programs.
Qualifications

  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, gardening, outdoor education, or environmental learning.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for promoting healthy lifestyles and positive school culture.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience leading physical activity, fitness, or wellness programs for children or adults.
  • Confidence demonstrating movement-based activities in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to develop engaging wellness lessons and activities that support academic success and student well-being.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a growth mindset.
Physical Demands

Work is performed in classrooms, outdoor learning environments, school gardens, the Action-Based Learning (ABL) Lab, staff fitness spaces, and other school facilities. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Duties also include demonstrating a variety of physical movements such as skipping, hopping, crawling, balancing, high knees, crab walking, and other locomotor activities as part of instructional programming. The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions is required.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Commit to Be Fit Programs in collaboration with the appropriate building administrator(s), based on the successful performance of assigned responsibilities and contributions to the goals of the Commit to Be Fit program and Rappahannock County Public Schools.
