Job summary

The Whitten Regional Center in Clinton, SC is hiring a Recreation Specialist to plan and oversee recreational activities for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Under supervision, you will facilitate programs, coordinate outings, and provide hands-on support as needed to promote wellness and daily living skills.

High school diploma with relevant experience is required; a Bachelor’s in physical education or recreation may substitute for experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or a related field may be substituted for work experience.
• Knowledge of various types of recreational activities and how to plan, organize and oversee them.
• Ability to motivate and sustain residents' interest and instruct them in activities.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and oversee recreational activities to meet residents' needs and abilities.
• Identify alternate programs and weekend schedules for residents, including during hazardous weather or special circumstances.
• Coordinate on/off campus outings and transport residents to activities.
• Manage supplies and decorations; provide hands-on care as needed; supervise activities safely.
