Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Recreational Specialist for the Coastal Regional Center in Summerville, SC. You will plan, implement, and supervise a range of recreational activities for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring safety and accessibility.

Applicants should have a high school diploma; a bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or related field may substitute for work experience.
• Experience planning and overseeing recreational activities and programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and oversee recreational activities and programs to meet residents’ needs and abilities.
• Coordinate on/off campus outings and transport residents to activities.
• Obtain and manage supplies and equipment; provide decorations for events.
• Provide hands-on care and guidance to residents; ensure health and safety during activities.
• Stay over or work extra shifts as needed to maintain proper staffing and safety.
