Job summary

The Crossroads YMCA in Crown Point, IN is seeking a Part-Time Coordinator for the Dean & Barbara White Southlake YMCA location. You will support program operation, development, and member satisfaction while helping to retain staff and ensure safety in a dynamic wellness environment.

Responsibilities include supervising shifts, recruiting and training team members, coordinating payroll, and delivering fitness demonstrations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience preferred.
  • YMCA certifications (personal training and/or group exercise) or willing to acquire within 30 days.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Adept computer skills in Office 365.
  • Flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays; On-Call with predetermined schedule.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The coordinator is responsible for but not limited to: assisting in program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention and safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Coordinator at the Y, you lead an environment that is inviting and serves all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supports department to establish new program activities and expansion within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Adheres to the organizations policies and procedures.
  • Provides shift supervision while working 80% of time as direct service.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, development of team members.
  • Conducts team member feedback, corrective actions, and evaluations.
  • Schedules and processes payroll functions.
  • Provide fitness and equipment demonstrations and explanations for members and guests.
  • Supports campaign efforts and donor engagement in the community and team members.
  • Models relationship building in all interactions through Listen First.
  • Responds to all member and community inquires and/or complaints in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Responsible for following basic principles of exercise science, consistently complying with guidelines set by the YMCA and other nationally recognized fitness organizations.
  • Respond to members to support wellness goals related to healthy living.
  • Refrain from writing diets prescribing supplements or diagnosing/curing any type of injury or illness. Always referring members to a doctor when needed if health or well-being is questioned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
  • Potential extreme heat during peak summer months.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 1-2 years related experience preferred.
  • Maintain current nationally recognized and YMCA approved personal training and/or group exercise instructor certification(s).
  • Acquire equivalent Y-USA Strength and Conditioning and/or Y-USA Foundations of Group Exercise certifications within 30 days.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.
  • Adept computer skills in Office 365.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays. Required to be On-Call with predetermined schedule.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
