Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor II, Welding Instructor to provide classroom, shop, and field instruction in welding for NYC Transit employees. The role ensures welders meet safety, procedural, and quality standards while developing technical skills for assigned maintenance work.

The position requires extensive welding expertise, knowledge of codes, and strong instructional abilities to coach employees with varied experience levels.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of welding and metal fabrication practices.
• Knowledge of welding codes, specifications, inspection requirements, and accepted welding practices.
• Ability to demonstrate and explain complex welding procedures clearly to employees with varying levels of experience.
• Ability to evaluate weld quality and identify common welding defects.
• Knowledge of NYCT safety rules, procedures, and maintenance practices.
• Strong communication, classroom-management, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction in welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and oxy-fuel.
• Teaches proper use, inspection, and maintenance of welding machines and related equipment.
• Instructs on welding safety, PPE, fire prevention, ventilation, hot-work, and shop practices.
• Evaluates employee performance through exams, demonstrations, and welding tests.
• Identifies deficiencies and provides corrective instruction and training.
• Coordinates with maintenance, engineering, safety, and training staff.
