Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, inspect welds to AWS D1.1 or code, and maintain inspection logs. Company sponsors AWS CWI exam for eligible candidates.

You’ll review weld symbols, WPS/PQRs, and ensure weld records tie to welders, procedures, and results, with potential travel to site locations and overtime as required.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or 3+ years welding experience and CWI eligibility.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld appearance.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) with NDT technician and record results.
