Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds, verifying fit-up, joint preparation, and WPS compliance, while maintaining weld maps and inspection logs.

You will perform visual inspection to AWS D1.1 or governing codes, confirm welder qualifications, coordinate with NDT, and log findings. The company sponsors the AWS CWI exam, with potential for advancement to Welding Inspector II.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and CWI exam eligibility.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height and on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5 or code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment records.
• Maintain weld maps, logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
