Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up and WPS compliance, perform visual inspections, and maintain logs, with a path toward CWI certification sponsorship.

Role requires readiness to work on active sites, travel as needed, and coordination with NDT technicians to record results and ensure code compliance.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have AWS CAWI certification or be eligible to sit for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate nondestructive testing (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
