Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. The role verifies fit-up, conducts visual inspection to AWS D1.1/D1.5, and maintains weld maps and logs.

Travel to active sites is expected, with sponsorship for the AWS CWI exam after meeting experience requirements. Responsibilities include verifying joint fit-up, preheat, WPS compliance, recording results, and coordinating with NDT for UT/MT/PT.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or eligible for CWI exam
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, WPS/PQR documents
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces and on active sites
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding
• Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1 or D1.5 or governing code
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) testing with NDT technician and record results
