Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding, verifying fit-up, WPS compliance, and recording weld data. The role supports CWI supervision and prepares you for advancement along the CWI path.

This position requires CAWI certification or 3+ years welding experience with eligibility for the CWI exam, and involves site work with potential travel and per diem. Pay ranges hourly and includes benefits.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or CWI exam eligibility required.
• Experience reading structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Able to work at height and in confined spaces on active sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or project code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) testing with the NDT technician and record results.
