Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to support field inspections on structural steel and pipe welding under a Certified Welding Inspector. You will verify joint fit-up, preheat, WPS compliance, and maintain weld maps and daily reports.

In this role, you will perform visual inspections under supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code, confirm welder qualifications, coordinate NDT with the NDT technician, and help build the path toward the CWI exam with sponsorship from

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding/welding inspection experience and ability to sit for CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate UT/MT/PT with the NDT technician and record results.
