Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds in active erection sites. Responsibilities include ensuring fit-up, WPS compliance, and logging weld data.

Qualifications include CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding WIS experience, ability to read weld symbols, and physical readiness for height work and confined spaces. Training and advancement opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Experience welding inspection and/or CAWI eligibility required or pursuing CWI exam.
• Must be physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active erection sites.
• Must be careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to applicable codes.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for disposition and coordinate with NDT as needed.
