Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, perform visual inspections to AWS D1.1 or governing code, and keep weld maps and inspection logs.

Possession of CAWI or 3+ years welding inspection experience is required, with the company sponsoring the CWI exam. Your week includes fit-up checks, in-process visual inspections, and documentation linking welds to welders,

Qualifications

• CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding inspection experience.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR docs.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
