Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I who works under the direct supervision of a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up and joint preparation, check welder qualifications and WPS compliance, and perform visual inspection to AWS D1.1 or governing code.

The role requires attention to detail, ability to work at heights, and willingness to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding or welding inspection experience.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
