Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to support structural steel and pipe welding on active sites. You will verify fit-up, preheat, WPS compliance, and maintain weld maps and logs, working under an AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector.

The role involves travel to project sites and coordination with the team. Requirements include CAWI or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and CWI exam eligibility, plus the ability to read drawings and weld symbols.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and CWI exam eligibility.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active erection sites.
• Meticulous, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
