Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds. You will verify fit-up, perform visual inspections to AWS D1.1/D1.5, and maintain inspection logs and weld maps.

Requirements include CAWI or CWI path eligibility with 3+ years welding experience, ability to read weld symbols, and capability to work at height and in confined spaces. Company sponsorship for CWI exam is offered.

Qualifications

AWS CAWI certification or CWI exam eligibility with 3+ years welding or welding inspection experience.
Reads structural drawings and weld symbols.
Physically able to work at height and in confined spaces.
Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5 or governing code.
Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
