Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds. You will verify fit-up, preheat and WPS compliance, perform visual inspections, and help maintain documentation that ties welds to welders, procedures, and results.

Qualified candidates may hold CAWI or have 3+ years welding experience and be on the CWI path. The role may involve site work with travel and overtime as needed, with sponsorship for CWI exam.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and eligibility for CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Familiarity with WPS/PQR and code requirements.
• Careful, consistent and honest about weld appearance.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat and WPS compliance.
• Perform visual inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate ND testing (UT, MT, PT) with NDT technician and record results.
