Job summary

Hitachi Energy in South Boston, VA seeks a skilled welder to join our manufacturing team. You will weld cooler, panels, seams and bases using GMAW, follow drawings, and work with cranes and forklifts to support transformer production. Second shift positions are available.

Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED, GMAW welding experience, and the ability to read blueprints. Lean manufacturing experience and basic computer skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must have work authorization to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
• Previous GMAW welding experience required.
• Ability to read blueprints and simple schematics.
• Experience in lean manufacturing including 4Q, JIDOKA, 6S.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety and quality procedures and maintain housekeeping.
• Fabricate and weld product using engineering drawings to meet standards and production goals.
• Operate equipment to weld material used in transformer manufacturing.
• Use computer to check schedules and update job status.
• Complete paperwork, check sheets and records.
• Operate cranes and forklifts for material handling.
• Monitor quality and address inquiries and issues.
• Participate in continuous improvement and team meetings.
• Communicate information with other departments.
• Cross-train in multiple skills and assist training.
• Work overtime including weekends as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Weld cooler, panels, seam and base welding (GMAW); some on semi-automated equipment.
