Job summary

AUTOKINITON in Plymouth, Michigan is seeking a Welding Engineer to join our Engineering Team. You will specify welding equipment, consumables, robotic systems, and related components used in welding processes.

You will develop preventive maintenance procedures for welding equipment, assist in weld quality control, design welding methods, and support QA, manufacturing, and projects from start-up through implementation. This full-time role reports to the Engineering Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5+ years related experience or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience in manual and automated welding processes.
• Knowledge of MIG and Spot-welding processes.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, product designs, safety, quality and workflow.
• Excellent welding and training skills.
• Knowledge in robotic welding and material handling applications.
• Knowledge in robotic programming (ABB, Fanuc).
• Understanding of electrical/controls circuitry and schematics.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and weld drawings.
• Mechanical ability.
• Specialized knowledge: weld power source, wire feeder, torch and reamer; plasma cutting and rework.
• Electrical enclosures and power requirements for welding; customer welding specs and testing.
• Resistance spot welding.

Responsibilities

• Specify welding equipment, consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and related components for welding.
• Develop preventive maintenance procedures for welding equipment including robotic systems.
• Assist in development of weld quality control processes.
• Design, develop and test welding methods, materials, processes and results.
• Assist QA to maintain weld integrity; interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve issues.
• Assist with MRO crib activities related to weld supplies.
• Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
• Assist in integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment.
• Champion welding engineering changes; communicate and coordinate with all departments.
• Train and mentor the welding process for manufacturing and trades colleagues.
• Participate in root cause analysis and 8D problem solving.
